Depending on where you live, how many people are in your household and how much money you make, you may be eligible for assistance. Tennessee Bill Assistance Programs
Here is a list of state bill assistance programs. Municipal government or non-profit organizations may also offer bill assistance options.
- AccessTN provides coverage for people who are unable to buy private health insurance because of their health status.
- Covered benefits include hospital and physician care, prescription drugs, chemotherapy and radiation treatment, and mental health and substance abuse services.
- Bridges to Care Plus (BTC Plus) is a collaborative effort between the Nashville Academy of Medicine and the Safety Net Consortium of Middle Tennessee, LLC, to provide a coordinated system of volunteer physicians, hospitals, laboratories, and pharmacies to assist Davidson County’s uninsured access specialty care.
- BTC Plus has cultivated a network of healthcare professionals dedicated to providing medical care to Nashville’s uninsured at 200% of poverty
- Through this network, physicians agree to see one to two patients a month referred through the BTC Plus office so that there is equitable distribution of patients
- Patients have access to generic prescriptions written by their assigned BTC Plus physicians at Kroger pharmacies for a $5 co-pay
- CoverKids provides free, comprehensive health coverage for qualifying children 18 and younger.
The coverage includes an emphasis on preventive health services and coverage for physician services, hospital visits, vaccinations, well-child visits, healthy babies program, developmental screenings, mental health, vision and dental care.
- CoverRx is a pharmacy assistance program designed to assist those who have no pharmacy coverage, but have a need for medication. CoverRx provides participants affordable access to more than 250 generic medications in addition to some name brands of insulin and of mental health medications.
- CoverRx is not health insurance and will not cover doctor’s visits or hospitalizations.
- CoverRx has no monthly premiums; just affordable co pays which vary with income.
Federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) – Families First
- Families First is a goal-oriented, time-limited assistance program for families with dependent children. The values of work and child support, as primary means of achieving and maintaining self-sufficiency, are the basis of the program. In addition to providing cash benefits, and encouraging work and child support, the Families First program promotes the values of education and healthy children through the requirements of school attendance, immunizations and heal checks.
- TennCare is a Medicaid program that operates within Medicaid guidelines set by the U.S. or federal government. The State of Tennessee and the federal government share the cost of providing health care for those who qualify.
- TennCare enrollees are primarily low-income: children, pregnant women, parents of minor children, and people who are elderly or have a disability.
- TennCare is 100 percent Managed Care –meaning everyone who is on TennCare receives coordinated health services through a Managed Care Organization or MCO.
- TennCare has integrated long-term care services for the elderly and adults with physical disabilities like nursing home services and home and community based services into managed care.
